In compliance with Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s directive, banners have been displayed showing the fixed rate of Rs14,300 for graves have been installed at all registered cemeteries managed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
Director of Cemeteries Sarwar Alam inspected KMC-operated graveyards and instructed staff to strictly adhere to the bylaws and official pricing.
He emphasized that no unregistered individual would be allowed to operate within KMC cemeteries.
Strict action will be taken against anyone found charging more than the designated rate.
The move comes in response to reports of mafia activities in various cemeteries, where citizens were being overcharged.
Following the mayor’s intervention, banners outlining the official rates have been prominently displayed to ensure transparency and prevent exploitation.
With this new fixed rate, KMC is providing some relief, ensuring that families no longer have to endure exploitation during their time of grief.
However, the Sindh Government must also step in to provide further support and ensure these rates are not only fixed but also followed consistently across the region.
