A shocking video has surfaced online showing a man distributing Gutka, a banned substance, to participants of the Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) procession in Karachi.
The viral video has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many condemning the man's actions as a "disregard for the sanctity of the sacred occasion".
The video shows the man standing on a truck, freely distributing Gutka to procession participants.
The incident is disturbing given the Sindh government's efforts to eradicate the production, sale, and consumption of Gutka.
In 2023, the Sindh assembly unanimously passed 'The Prohibition of Preparation, Manufacturing, Storage, Sale and Use of Gutka and Mainpuri (Amendment) Bill, 2021', making it punishable by law.
Under this amended bill, offenders can face up to three years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs200,000 if found guilty.
The bill also stipulated that cases related to Gutka would be tried in the court of a first-class judicial magistrate instead of a sessions court.
The amendments aim to protect citizens from the harmful effects of Gutka consumption.
Tobacco consumption is a major public health concern, with 90 percent of oral cancer cases linked to its use.
