A man sustained critical injuries when his wife assaulted him with a knife, attempting to sever his throat in Baloch Colony, Karachi, as reported by a private television channel on Sunday.

According to police sources, the wife subsequently attempted to take her own life by cutting her throat but fortunately survived the ordeal.

Further information indicated that the altercation between the couple arose after the husband expressed his intention to enter into a second marriage.

It was noted that this topic had previously led to numerous heated exchanges between them.

Upon receiving the report, a police team promptly arrived at the scene and transported both the injured husband and wife to Jinnah Hospital. An FIR was filed, and an investigation into the incident was initiated.

In urban Pakistani society, there is significant resistance among women against their husbands pursuing second marriages, despite Islamic law permitting men to have up to four wives simultaneously.
