Four police officials, including a DSP and an SHO, have been suspended after a woman reportedly committed suicide over police's alleged failure to register an FIR on her complaint of rape in Multan.

The incident occurred in Qadirpur, where the woman allegedly consumed poisonous pills after her complaint remained unregistered, according to the police.

The police said that the woman accused three men of sexually abusing her and had approached the Budhla Sant police station to register a case. However, when no FIR was registered for five days, she allegedly fell into severe mental distress and took her own life.

Following the incident, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan ordered immediate action, suspending DSP Irshad Hussain, SHO Azeem Zulfiqar, investigating officer Waseem and the station clerk (moharrir).

The police said that a case has also been registered against the four officials over alleged negligence, while further investigations are under way.

After a post-mortem examination, the victim's body was handed over to her family for burial.
