A 22-year-old boy in Muzaffargarh faked his own kidnapping, informing his parents that he was being held hostage by Katcha dacoits who demanded a ransom for his release.

Muhammad Ahmad's father, Mushtaq Mahra, reported his son's missing to the local police station when he disappeared from Rohillanwali, located 25km from Muzaffargarh.

Meanwhile, Mushtaq received a call from his son, who pleaded on the phone that he had been kidnapped by Katcha bandits and demanded a ransom of Rs2 million.

He claimed that the kidnappers would kill him if the father failed to provide the amount.

Following the call, District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Hasnain Haider directed SHO Zahid Mahmood Leghari to recover Ahmad from Sindh.

Police used advanced technology to track down Ahmad in the Katcha area and bring him back safely.

According to the police, the man staged his own kidnapping and pressured his father through a 'kidnapper' for money.

It emerged during the investigation that Ahmad desired a love marriage with the girl of his choice but his parents disapproved.

Ahmad hatched a plot to finance his love marriage and conspired with a friend to fake a kidnapping and extort money from his father.

However, police have arrested the young boy and his friend from Ranipur area of Sindh.
