In yet another mugging incident, a 40-year-old online bike-hailing rider was shot dead in broad daylight on Friday in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Johar area while resisting a robbery attempt.

The victim, a resident of Korangi, was targeted near Munawar Chowrangi by armed assailants.

A video from the crime scene, making rounds on social media, shows the rider being intercepted by the armed suspects, followed by a verbal altercation.

During the robbery attempt, the rider attempted to resist and grabbed hold of one of the muggers. In response, the gunmen opened fire on the rider before fleeing the scene amidst heavy traffic.

The police confirmed that the victim's wallet and motorcycle were recovered from the scene. They have launched an investigation to determine whether the incident was linked to personal enmity or a robbery gone wrong.

This tragic incident highlights the growing problem of street crime in Karachi.

According to data from the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), over 50,000 criminal incidents were reported in Karachi between January and August of this year, with street crimes such as mobile phone and vehicle thefts being the most common.
