Probe ordered into infant's death

MURREE: An inquiry into the case of alleged medical negligence which led to the death of a 17 months old boy at Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, Murree, has been directed by the administration of Murree District and the report from a district level committee in this regard has been asked within three days.

The inquiry has been launched on the notice taken by the Murree Deputy Commissioner regarding the complaint made by the father of the deceased child, Mr. Muhammad Umair, a resident of New Murree, against his son's death due to wrong treatment and negligence on part of hospital staff.

As per an official notification issued by the CEO of DHA, Murree, the district level committee for this inquiry includes Dr Suleman, Medical Superintendent THQ Hospital Kotli Sattian, as convener, while Dr Maryam Ali, Deputy District Health Officer Murree, and Dr Abrar, Consultant Paediatrician THQ Hospital Kotli Sattian, have been included as members.

In addition, it has been instructed to find the responsibility and provide a detailed report to the Chief Executive Officer within three days for further actions.

As per the parents' claims, they brought their 17 months old baby at THQ Hospital Murree on July 18 due to vomiting and diarrhea. It was claimed by the parents that the doctor not only did not measure the temperature of the child but also did not conduct any clinical examination prior to giving the child five injections.

The parents claimed further that all the five injections were given to the child in less than five minutes. They claimed that Ringer's Lactate, which is usually given via drip, was given through injection to the child.
