Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has approved Rs25 billion for the reconstruction of 315 streets and 60 major roads across Karachi, while also directing authorities to ensure proper installation of streetlights throughout the city.

According to details, Karachi’s road infrastructure has long suffered from deterioration, with major arteries riddled with potholes, conditions that have worsened after the recent rains, posing serious risks to commuters.

The spokesperson for the Chief Minister, Abdul Rasheed Channa, said that CM Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting today regarding the rehabilitation of Karachi’s roads and streets.

The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Nasir Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Senior Member Board of Revenue Khalid Haider Shah, and other officials.

According to the spokesperson, the Chief Minister noted that heavy rains had severely damaged the city’s roads. Ongoing mega projects were also causing traffic issues, and he emphasized accelerating development works to minimize public inconvenience.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab informed the meeting that 315 internal streets in the city are in extremely poor condition. The Chief Minister directed that all such projects be approved and completed swiftly.

He further instructed authorities to establish proper drainage systems alongside the reconstructed streets and ensure similar arrangements on the 60 major roads.

During the briefing, Mayor Wahab stated that the estimated cost of Karachi’s development works stands at Rs25 billion.

The Chief Minister said that funds were not an issue, and that he wanted urgent and high-quality work for the relief of citizens.

Murad Ali Shah also congratulated the Mayor on inaugurating reverse osmosis (RO) plants in Keamari.
