The spokesperson for the Sindh government, Sadia Javed, has stated that extinguishing the fire at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road remains the top priority, with approximately 40 per cent of the blaze now under control.
She noted that intense heat inside the building is making it difficult for firefighters to enter, but they are bravely continuing their efforts.
Ms Javed added that the presence of chemical and perfume shops inside the plaza is hindering rescue operations, and both water and foam are being used to tackle the fire.
She expressed that the Sindh government stands alongside traders and the public during this difficult time, conveying deep sorrow over the loss of life.
She offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured and under treatment in the burn ward.
The spokesperson emphasised that all government sympathies are with the victims of Gul Plaza and assured that the losses of affected traders will be compensated.
She added that the fire spread rapidly, making it difficult to control, and noted that older buildings often lack proper emergency exits and safety measures.
Ms Javed concluded by stating that the Sindh government is actively working and will hold consultations with the business community to address the concerns of the affected traders.
