Tourists urged to follow PMD advisory

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has urged motorists and tourists to avoid unnecessary journeys after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted heavy rainfall and strong winds in several parts of the country, including the Hazara region, on July 7 and 8.

The advisory was issued following intense rainfall in different areas of Hazara that disrupted traffic on the GT Road and motorway due to flooding, poor visibility and other weather-related challenges.

According to an NHMP spokesperson, drivers should remain extremely cautious as wet roads could become slippery and heavy rain may severely affect visibility on highways and motorways.

The spokesperson advised motorists to drive at reduced speeds, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and keep headlights on during rainy conditions.

People travelling towards northern and mountainous regions were also cautioned about possible landslides and falling debris. The public was advised to avoid unnecessary travel to these areas and check updated weather forecasts and road conditions before setting out.

The NHMP further warned that seasonal streams and water channels could experience sudden flooding, advising motorists and tourists not to attempt crossing flooded areas.

Drivers were also reminded to avoid mobile phone use while driving and remain focused on the road at all times.
