Woman arrested for begging in Saudi Arabia upon return to Karachi

Karachi: A woman involved in begging under the guise of performing Umrah has been arrested at the airport upon her return from Saudi Arabia, according to an FIA spokesperson.

The suspect, identified as Gul Shana, reportedly confessed to engaging in begging while in Saudi Arabia, earning an average of 100 riyals daily.

Authorities revealed that she was entirely unaware of the basic rituals of Umrah.

The FIA spokesperson further disclosed that the woman's husband and other relatives were also involved in begging activities in Saudi Arabia.

The accused has been transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Karachi for further investigation.

It is to be noted that Pakistan is facing pressure over increasing incidents of begging in Saudi Arabia and recently it placed over 4,000 people on ECL found begging in Saudi Arabia.
