Woman harassed in broad daylight in Karachi’s Korangi

KARACHI: A veiled woman was subjected to sexual harassment in broad daylight in Block C of Al-Falah Society, Korangi, with CCTV footage of the incident going viral on social media on Friday.

The footage has sparked outrage among citizens and renewed concerns over the increasing incidents of harassment against women in the city.

The video shows a motorcyclist allegedly harassing the woman as she crosses the road.

According to a police complaint, the incident took place on August 18 at around 7am.

The incident comes months after Karachi police arrested a motorcyclist in May following public outrage over the alleged harassment of a woman in Korangi No. 6, Sector 51-B. CCTV and mobile phone footage of that incident had also gone viral on social media.

Police said a man identified as Muhammad Danish, who fell within the jurisdiction of the Awami Colony/Zaman Town police station, was arrested in connection with the case.

According to officials, the suspect changed his appearance and shaved his beard in an attempt to conceal his identity after footage of the incident went viral.

The latest incident has prompted renewed calls for stronger measures to ensure the safety of women in public spaces and swift action against those accused of harassment.
