Police in Spain are investigating an attempted burglary at the Barcelona home of footballer Lamine Yamal, media reports said, citing local authorities.
Catalan regional police said that two masked suspects tried to enter a property in Esplugues de Llobregat, on the outskirts of Barcelona, but fled after being confronted by private security guards.
Police did not identify the owner of the house, citing privacy rules. However, Barcelona-based newspaper La Vanguardia reported that the property belongs to the 19-year-old Spain international.
According to the report, the suspects, wearing balaclavas, climbed over the property's wall before escaping when security personnel intervened.
The attempted break-in took place shortly after Spain secured a 2-0 victory over France in Texas to book a place in the World Cup final. Yamal played a key role in the win by winning the penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal converted to open the scoring.
La Vanguardia also reported that the house was previously owned by former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and Colombian singer Shakira.
Several high-profile footballers in Spain, including Karim Benzema, Rodrygo and Dani Carvajal, have also been targeted in burglaries in recent years.
