A BJP minister has blamed two Australian women cricketers for the molestation they suffered in Indore last week, saying they should have been more careful.
He suggested that the incident could have been avoided if the players had informed local authorities before going out.
The players were stalked and molested by a man on motorcycle on Thursday when they left their hotel to visit a café. The incident came a day after Australia’s six-wicket victory over England in the Women’s World Cup group stage.
According to Indian media reports, a man on a motorcycle approached the women and touched them inappropriately before fleeing the scene.

Madhya Pradesh minister and senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya described the episode as “a lesson for everyone” and urged players to remain cautious when stepping out in public.
“Sometimes players don’t realise their popularity. Players are very popular, so they should be careful,” he said. “This incident has happened; it’s a lesson for everyone.”
Vijayvargiya claimed that the athletes did not inform anyone before leaving the hotel. He added that whenever public figures travel, they should alert security or local authorities, as “there is a huge craze for cricket players” in India.
