Suspect's police remand extended in case of rape, murder of 18-month-old girl

A judicial magistrate in Karachi on Monday extended the police remand of a teenager suspect in the case of raping and killing an 18-month-old girl, Aizal.

The police produced the suspect, identified as Manan, before Judicial Magistrate Muzammil Ali Soomro after completion of his previous physical remand. The court extended his remand by two days.

The investigation officer submitted a report regarding the suspect's age, stating that he was between 17 and 18 years old.

The officer told the court that further investigation was required in light of the age report. He added that the DNA reports of the suspect and the deceased girl were still awaited.

According to police, Manan took his relative's daughter outside on August 4 on the pretext of buying her something. When he brought her back, she was unconscious and her clothes were bloodstained.

The girl was taken to Jinnah Hospital, where she died, police said.

A case against the suspect was registered at Defence police station.
