Pakistan's hopes of winning medals in Commonwealth Games 2026 seem to be deemed, as several sports have been eliminated from the event.
Glasgow, a city hosting the Commonwealth Games 2026, announced that wrestling, hockey, shooting, cricket, and several other games would not be part of the event, which reduced the chances for Pakistan to achieve medals.
Similarly, badminton, table tennis, squash, rugby sevens, beach volleyball and mountain biking were also not included in the list of sports that will be played in the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Wrestling was one of the most successful sports in Pakistan, graced Pakistan with 46 medals, including 21 gold. The exclusion of wrestling will be a big setback for the country.
Meanwhile, hockey—a national sport of Pakistan— was given multiple Commonwealth Games medals, but its removal shrink the opportunity for the country to win medals in 2026 games.
In shooting sport, Pakistan claimed 27 gold, 27 silver, and 28 bronze medals across all the Commonwealth Games appearances. Now, it has also been removed from the Commonwealth Games.
Athletics and para-athletics, swimming and para-swimming, artistic gymnastics, track cycling and para track cycling, netball, weightlifting and para powerlifting, boxing, judo, bowls and para bowls, along with 3x3 basketball, weightlifting and 3x3 wheelchair basketball have been including in the Commonwealth games 2026.
