International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Andy Pycroft has apologised to the Pakistan cricket team management over the handshake controversy during the September 14 India-Pakistan Asia Cup match.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Pycroft met with the team manager and captain to express regret, calling the incident a “miscommunication.”

The controversy arose when Pycroft reportedly instructed the captains of both teams not to shake hands after the toss. The PCB reacted strongly, terming the move a violation of the game’s spirit.

Following Pakistan’s protest, the ICC confirmed its willingness to hold an inquiry into potential breaches of the Code of Conduct during the match.

The handshake issue sparked debate on sportsmanship and impartiality in international cricket, with the PCB earlier demanding transparency and accountability from the ICC.
