Imam-ul-Haq could face up to two-year ban over injury controversy

Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq could face a ban of up to two years following questions over his injury during the second Test against England at Lord’s, according to media reports.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is going to form a high-level committee to investigate the matter, the reports said. The controversy has also brought attention to an earlier injury-related incident involving Imam during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in March 2025.

The reports said that the PCB could impose a one- to two-year ban if the latest investigation finds him responsible for misconduct. Imam picked up a low-grade calf strain while fielding on the opening day of the Lord’s Test. He did not bat in Pakistan’s first innings the next day as the team was dismissed for 110 while chasing England’s 290.

He was also unavailable in the second innings when Pakistan needed 389 runs for victory. The visitors were bowled out for 194, handing England a win and an unassailable series lead. The circumstances surrounding Imam’s injury have now prompted the PCB to launch a detailed investigation.

The earlier New Zealand episode dates back to March 28, 2025. According to the reports, Imam was struck on his right big toe during an indoor net session.

A PCB inquiry committee had subsequently held him responsible for allegedly faking the injury, they said. The committee reportedly found that he had fabricated, exaggerated or misrepresented his symptoms and misled members of the medical staff.
