Former Australia cricketer and Karachi Kings captain David Warner has been fined A$1,500 ($1,065) after a Sydney court convicted him of drink-driving.

Warner, 39, pleaded guilty to the offence at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday. He was arrested in April after being caught driving with a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.

The court heard that Warner was taking his family home after a social gathering during the Easter weekend when he encountered a roadside breath-testing operation. He stopped the vehicle and attempted to switch seats with a female passenger.

Judge Clare Farnan said Warner was unlikely to repeat the offence but stressed the seriousness of drink-driving, particularly as children were travelling in the vehicle.

In addition to the fine, Warner has been ordered to use an alcohol interlock device, which prevents a vehicle from starting if alcohol is detected in the driver's breath.

Warner's lawyer, Awais Ahmad, had asked the court to consider the impact of extensive media coverage of the case, arguing that it had already affected his client's commercial opportunities.

Warner retired from international cricket after representing Australia in 112 Tests and more than 250 limited-overs matches. He has since worked as a commentator for Fox Sports Australia and captains Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.

He also led Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League during the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
