Former Pakistan cricket captain Moin Khan on Tuesday dismissed false reports circulating on social media claiming he had passed away, calling the posts “highly irresponsible”.

Confusion arose after the death of 65-year-old Hyderabad-based senior cricketer Moin Khan Rajput, who suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Monday. However, several social media users mistakenly shared the picture of former national captain Moin Khan instead of the deceased Moin Rajput, leading to widespread misinformation.

Responding to the rumours, Moin Khan issued a statement on X, saying he was “perfectly fine”. He added that the false reports had caused unnecessary distress among friends and fans. “A rumour has been circulating since morning. Whoever did this has acted in an extremely irresponsible manner,” he wrote.

He urged social media users to verify information before posting, noting that misinformation had created panic among those who knew him.

Meanwhile, Moin Khan Rajput — captain of Mehboob Sports Cricket Club — was laid to rest in Hyderabad. His funeral prayers were offered at Mehboob Cricket Ground, Unit No. 5 Latifabad, where a large number of players, former cricketers, sports organisers, political figures and community members attended. Rajput was widely respected in Hyderabad’s sporting circles for mentoring young cricketers over several decades.
