Pakistan's Bano Kousar wins gold against Indian competitor at Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship

In a landmark achievement, Pakistan’s Bano Kousar clinched the gold medal after defeating her Indian counterpart Richa Sharma in the women’s 48-kilogram contact ju-jitsu category at the Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship, held in Amman, Jordan.

Kousar's impressive win over India's Richa Sharma on Day 3 of the championship marked a standout performance for the Pakistani contingent, showcasing the nation’s growing strength in the sport on the continental stage.

Pakistan’s success at the event was not limited to Kousar’s gold.

Earlier in the week, the country bagged two bronze medals. Muhammad Ali Rashid and Muhammad Yousuf Ali earned bronze in the men's duo category, while Isra Waseem and Kainat Arif secured bronze in the women’s duo event.

Chairman of the Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation (PJJF), Khalil Ahmed Khan, lauded the team’s performance, saying, these medals proved that Pakistani athletes are of world-class category.

“The credit goes to the coaches, athletes and the entire support staff who worked tirelessly,” he added.

Tariq Ali, Secretary General of both the PJJF and the South Asian Regional Ju-Jitsu Association, hailed the victory as a major milestone. “The passion and courage displayed by our female and youth athletes are truly inspiring,” he said.

The Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship, featuring top athletes from across the continent, concludes Monday. With momentum on their side, Pakistan’s team is looking to add more medals to their tally in the tournament’s final events.
