The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to appoint former Australian bowler Jason Gillespie as the head coach of the national cricket team, sources said on Thursday.
The 48-year-old cricketer will also tender his resignation as the head coach of South Australia and Adelaide Strikers at the end of June, the South Australia Cricket Association (SACA) said in a statement on Thursday.
"I am incredibly proud of what we achieved together at the SACA, and I will always cherish those memories. I have no doubt that South Australian cricket has a bright future," Gillespie said in a SACA statement.
"Looking forward, I am excited to explore new opportunities in the sport and pursue the next chapter in my career," he added.
However, SACA has not mentioned anything about Gillespie's expected new venture in its statement.
Earlier, the country's cricket body approached Gary Kirsten, Justin Langer, Shane Watson and Darren Sammy to assume charge of the top post.
However, the deal was not finalised with any of the said cricketers.
Sources said that PCB will recruit a Pakistani coach temporarily for a five-match T20 home series with New Zealand.
The final decision in this regard is expected to be taken by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi ahead of the T20 World Cup.
