Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has rejected the lucrative offer of Rs505 million annually by the Pakistan Cricket Board to lead the national team as head coach, sources said on Saturday.
According to the sources, the Quetta Gladiators coach denied the offer due to his commitment to family and other plans.
Watson was in discussion with the cricket body regarding taking over the responsibilities of coaching for the white-ball format.
However, PCB wanted to hire a coach who could lead teams in both formats, sources added.
Sources further said that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi wanted to recruit someone who could work with Pakistan for the long term.
On the other hand, Watson has returned to his home country after coaching Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League's (PSL) season nine.
The cricket body is likely to recruit a Pakistani coach temporarily for a five-match T20 home series with New Zealand.
