Eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt has confessed that his fitness has declined significantly since retiring from professional athletics, admitting that even climbing stairs now leaves him out of breath.
The 39-year-old Jamaican, who still holds world records in the 100m, 200m, and 4×100m relay, revealed that he mostly sticks to gym workouts these days.
“I don’t really enjoy it, but I’ve been away from running for a long time. I feel like I need to start running again,” he said.
Bolt added that once he resumes a more regular training routine, he plans to run laps to rebuild his stamina and improve his breathing.
Discussing his current lifestyle, the sprint legend said he spends most of his time with his children.
“I usually wake up when they’re getting ready for school, and my day depends on what I have planned. If nothing special is happening, I just relax, spend time with the kids—at least until they start bothering me,” he joked.
Bolt also shared that he enjoys watching movies at home and has developed a passion for building Lego sets. When asked why today’s sprinters, despite modern technology and advanced spikes, have not matched the standards of his generation, he replied: “You want the truth? We were just more talented.”
Bolt, who hails from Jamaica, retired from professional sprinting in 2017.
