WhatsApp has introduced audio and video calling support for its web version, expanding the platform's messaging service with a range of new communication features.

According to the company, users of WhatsApp Web can now make audio and video calls directly from their browsers. The update also introduces screen sharing, message reactions during calls, and a dedicated Calls tab, where users can access their call history and favourite contacts.

WhatsApp said all calls made through the web version will remain protected by end-to-end encryption and will not be subject to time limits.

The company has also added support for transferring an ongoing call seamlessly between devices, allowing users to switch between the mobile app, WhatsApp Web and the desktop application without interrupting the conversation.

In addition, the update introduces Noise Suppression, which reduces background sounds during calls to improve audio quality.

For video calls, WhatsApp said users will be able to use HD quality by default when starting a call.

The company added that the rollout of the new features has begun and will be made available to users worldwide in phases.
