Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani's son, Anant Ambani, sparked a social media frenzy after a video surfaced showing him rescuing a flock of poultry chickens from a truck by paying compensation to the owner. The incident occurred during his foot march.
The video, which went viral on April 1, shows Anant passing through Khambhalia town in the Devbhumi Dwarka district.
As part of his 120 km "padayatra" from Jamnagar to Dwarka, Anant stopped a truck carrying poultry chickens and, in an act of compassion for animal welfare, instructed his staff to compensate the driver. In the video, he is also seen holding a hen in his hands.
While some praised Anant for his gesture, calling it a commendable example of promoting animal welfare, many others criticised him for his double standards.
Critics pointed out that during his wedding celebrations, Anant had been seen riding a horse, and his family's business, Reliance Industries, operates JioMart, which sells chicken biryani. Furthermore, Anant's ownership of the Vantara Zoo, where meat is served to tigers and lions, also raised eyebrows.
"Anant Ambani saved 250 hens from being butchered and paid twice their total cost, but remember, at his own sangeet ceremony, he wore an alligator leather jacket worth 40,000 Euros," tweeted user Tarun Gautam.
Another user, Dr Nimo Yadava, wrote, "Anant Ambani is the biggest hypocrite. He is not an animal lover, as his PR suggests. He just loves to harass animals. In this video, Anant was sitting on a horse and dancing. A horse typically carries 90-110 kg, but here the mare is carrying 204 kg. I hope the horse survived."
Roshan Rai, commenting on the same platform, added, "This is the same guy who runs Vantara, where tigers and lions are kept. Tons of meat, including beef, are transported daily to Vantara to feed them."
The incident, which began as an act of kindness, has since sparked a larger conversation about Anant Ambani's practices and whether they align with his public image as an advocate for animal welfare.
