Carrefour closes all stores in Jordan amid boycott of pro-Israel brands

French retail giant Carrefour announced it will cease operations in Jordan due to the ongoing boycott of pro-Israel brands in response to the genocide of innocent Palestinians in Gaza.
The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement had included Carrefour on its list of targeted companies, prompting widespread boycotts across Jordan.
The supermaket operator announced its decision on Monday, informing customers that Carrefour “will no longer operate in the kingdom.”
“We thank our customers for their support and apologize for any inconvenience this decision may cause,” the company stated.
The Jordanian branch of BDS hailed Carrefour’s exit as “a victory for the Jordanian people,” celebrating the removal of a pro-Israel brand.
Carrefour has been criticised for operating stores on Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories and for forming contracts with Israeli companies.
Various regions have experienced spontaneous grassroots boycott campaign in response to Israel's relentless genocide in the Gaza Strip.
