Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that Mohammed Sinwar, a top Hamas commander in Gaza and younger brother of the late Yahya Sinwar, has been eliminated in a targeted military operation.

Mohammed Sinwar rose through the ranks of the Palestinian militant group and assumed a key leadership role in Gaza after the death of his brother, Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by Israeli forces earlier during the ongoing war.

Yahya Sinwar, widely considered the mastermind of the October 2023 attack on Israel, had been elevated to the group’s top leadership following the death of former Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh, who was reportedly killed in Iran during an Israeli strike.

hailed the latest strike as a “significant blow” to Hamas’ command structure, reiterating Israel’s commitment to dismantling the group’s leadership network in Gaza and beyond.

The Israel-Hamas conflict, now stretching into its second year, has seen intensified military operations, targeted assassinations, and rising regional tensions following the unprecedented cross-border attack in October 2023 that triggered the current war.
