An Indian news anchor was found dead at her residence in Hyderabad on Friday night in what police have described as an apparent suicide, according to media reports.
The 40-year-old Telugu journalist, Swetcha Votarkar, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan, police said on Saturday.
A case has been filed on the complaint by her father, who named a person he believes is linked to her death. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao expressed his sorrow on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Deeply saddened to hear about the unfortunate demise of Swetcha Votarkar, a fierce journalist, writer and a dedicated Telanganite. I am at a loss for words.”
He also used the opportunity to raise awareness about mental health, urging anyone struggling to seek professional support.
“To everyone reading this, if you ever feel that life is tough, please don't hesitate to reach out to a professional. Life is meant to be lived and there is always support available,” he added.
Swetcha was widely respected for her outspoken journalism and unwavering stance on socio-political issues affecting Telangana.
