The Israeli military has dismissed three generals for failing to prevent the October 7, 2023 attack carried out by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
According to international news agencies, the Israeli army announced the removal of three generals and disciplinary action against several senior officers over their failure to stop the Hamas assault in 2023.
The decision comes two weeks after the army chief called for an investigation into the failures surrounding the Hamas attack.
Among those dismissed are three divisional commanders, including one who was serving as the head of Military Intelligence at the time.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Israeli military said the three officers were personally responsible for the army’s failure to prevent the Hamas attack that originated from Gaza.
The dismissals come despite the fact that all three officers had already resigned from their positions, including the former head of the Southern Command, General Yaron Finkelman.
Reports indicate that disciplinary action has also been taken against the heads of the navy and air force, while action has been announced against four more generals and several senior officers.
It is worth noting that on October 7, 2023, in response to years of Israeli oppression, Hamas fired around one thousand rockets at Israel and breached the border fence, launching attacks on Israeli settlements and soldiers in occupied Palestinian territories.
The attack resulted in the deaths of more than one thousand Israelis, while hundreds of Israeli civilians and soldiers were taken hostage and transported to Gaza.
Using the October 7 attacks as justification, Israel launched intense aerial bombardments on Gaza the very next day, followed by a ground offensive soon after.
