Former Indian Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha has launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, accusing it of deliberately concealing the failures of Operation Sindoor and manipulating public opinion through state-aligned media to gain political advantage, particularly ahead of elections in Bihar.
The former senior BJP leader-turned-critic made these explosive claims during interviews and public statements, which have since gained traction across Indian and international media.
Sinha asserted that the Modi administration, along with figures such as Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, were responsible for diplomatic and intelligence lapses that led to the operation's failure.
“The government is hiding the true extent of India’s aircraft and strategic losses during Operation Sindoor,” Sinha alleged. “Instead of transparency, the people are being fed a curated narrative through Godi media (a term often used to describe media allegedly aligned with the ruling BJP).”
Sinha’s statements suggest a deliberate campaign of disinformation intended to suppress dissent and silence questions surrounding the operation’s objectives and outcomes.
He condemned what he described as the BJP’s culture of labelling critics as traitors, saying that the absence of accountability in national security matters sets a dangerous precedent.
He pointedly criticized Prime Minister Modi for skipping an all-party briefing in the wake of Operation Sindoor’s fallout, choosing instead to deliver political speeches in Bihar, indicating that the issue was being exploited for electoral gains.

“Operation Sindoor has been converted into a political tool rather than being subjected to national scrutiny. The government’s refusal to address its failures honestly is unacceptable,” Sinha said.
In one of the most damning parts of his statement, Sinha revisited the 2019 Pulwama incident, calling it a “false flag operation” used by the Modi government to whip up nationalist sentiment before general elections.
“Pulwama was exploited for votes. We are seeing the same template being used again,” he said, demanding resignations from the top brass of the ruling government.
Security analysts have reacted with concern to Sinha’s revelations, noting that if true, they erode India’s diplomatic credibility and expose a worrying pattern of strategic manipulation for domestic political gain.
