The sun will align directly above the Holy Kaaba in Makkah today (Tuesday), marking the second occurrence of this rare astronomical event in 2025, according to the Jeddah Astronomical Society.
As per reports, the phenomenon is expected to take place at 12:27 pm (Makkah time). At that exact moment, the sun will be positioned directly overhead the Holy Kaaba, causing surrounding objects and structures in the area to cast no shadow.
Astronomers explain that this alignment offers a unique opportunity for Muslims around the world to accurately determine the direction of the Qibla.

When the sun is directly above the Holy Kaaba, anyone observing the sun from any location on Earth can face the direction in which the sun appears at that time to identify the exact direction of the Qibla.
This natural alignment occurs twice a year due to the Earth's axial tilt and its orbit around the sun.
