Iran’s military confirmed on Wednesday that senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Ali Shadmani died from injuries sustained in an Israeli airstrike last week, according to reports by state media.

The military's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which Shadmani led, vowed "severe revenge" for what it called a "criminal act" by Israeli forces. His death was officially announced by the military through the IRNA state news agency.

The Israeli military had previously stated on June 17 that Shadmani was killed in a targeted strike on a “command center in the heart of Tehran.” He was described by Israel as “the most senior military commander” and “the closest figure to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.”

Confirmation of his death comes a day after a ceasefire brokered by the United States brought an end to 12 days of direct hostilities between Israel and Iran.

Shadmani had only recently assumed command from General Gholam-Ali Rashid, who was among the first high-ranking Iranian figures killed in Israel’s initial wave of strikes earlier this month.

The conflict began on June 13, when Israel launched a large-scale bombing campaign targeting nuclear facilities and top Iranian military officials. The United States later joined the offensive, striking nuclear installations at Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.

In response, Iran launched multiple missile attacks at Israeli territory and also targeted a US military base in Qatar. US President Donald Trump eventually called for calm and announced a ceasefire that took effect on Tuesday.

According to official figures, the 12-day conflict left 627 civilians dead in Iran and 28 fatalities reported in Israel.
