US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he has begun efforts to help end the conflict in Sudan, a move he said came after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally urged him to take up the issue during their meeting at the White House.

Speaking at the US-Saudi Investment Forum, Trump said the crown prince briefed him on the background of the Sudan crisis in a way that changed his perspective.

"I viewed it as being just sort of a freelance, no government, no this, no that. And [MBS] explained the whole culture and the whole history. And it was very interesting to hear," he said.

Trump added that he began looking into the issue “about 30 minutes” after his Oval Office meeting with the Saudi leader on Tuesday. According to Trump, the Crown Prince told him that helping bring peace to Sudan “would be the greatest thing you can do, that would be greater than what you’ve already done.”

The US president said that he views the Sudan conflict differently now than he did just a day ago.
