Trump warns of ‘very strong action’ if Iran hangs protesters

American President Donald Trump issued an warning on Tuesday to Iranian leaders about "very strong action" if they proceeded with the execution of some protesters, as Iran dismissed threats from the United States as an "excuse for military intervention."

Global condemnation has grown in response to the crackdown which a rights organization alleged, without proof of the matter, had resulted in thousands of probable deaths during protests that present the biggest test yet in Iran’s clerical regime.

Iran’s UN delegation wrote on X saying that the “playbook" will "fail again".

“US fantasies and foreign policy concerning Iran are based on regime change, while sanctions, threats, orchestrated protests, and chaos are the modus operandi to create a pretext for military interventions,” wrote the blogger.

Iranian officials have been insisting that control of the country had been regained after several nights of widespread protests.

Rights organizations blame the government for killing protesters through shootings while concealing the extent of the crackdown by imposing an internet blackout, which has already exceeded the five-day period.

Trump, who had previously told the protesters in Iran that "help is on the way," told the CBS news channel that the United States would take action if Iran started hanging the protesters.

Tehran prosecutors announced that some Iranian citizens arrested for taking part in recent rallies would face “moharebeh,” or “waging war on God,” charges which can lead to a death penalty trial.

We will take very strong action if they do such a thing,” said the American leader, who has threatened Iran with military intervention several times.

“When they start killing thousands of people - and now you’re telling me about hanging. We’ll see how that’s going to work out for them,” Trump said.
