U.S. Vice President JD Vance indicated on Tuesday that there has been a lot of progress made in negotiations between the two countries, and none of the two sides want to go back to the military operations.
“We believe we’ve made a lot of progress. We believe that the Iranians want to make a deal,” Vance explained during a press briefing at the White House.
Vance indicated that he had just finished talking to Trump, who emphasized that the primary issue for the U.S. government is that Iran could never have its own nuclear weapon. He also noted that if Iran gets the nuclear weapon, “other countries in the Gulf will also want to have one, and then other countries in the world will want to have one.”
“So we want to have very few countries in the world having nuclear weapons, and that’s why Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Vance explained.
According to Vance, Washington believes that Iran wants to make an agreement but warns that the Trump administration is ready to start new military operations if necessary.
“The president has asked us to negotiate in good faith, and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” Vance explained.
He said the administration did not want to pursue that course of action, but added that the president was prepared to do so if necessary.
