The US has begun withdrawing some military personnel from key bases in the Middle East as regional tensions rise over the situation in Iran and US.

Iran has issued a warning that if U.S involves military action in response to the violent protests in Iran then it would strike US bases in neighboring countries.

Following the warning, some military personnel were withdrawn from the major U.S. Air Base in Qatar, as a safety measure amid fears of retaliation.

The pullback reflects heightened concerns about escalation after Iranian authorities signalled willingness to target U.S. assets if attacked.

The unrest in Iran, triggered by economic hardships and turning into major anti-government protests, has resulted in a heavy death toll reportedly reaching 2500 people.

Iran’s crackdown has sparked international criticism and prompted Trump to repeatedly warn of possible strong action if executions of protesters continue.

While Trump told reporters he had been informed that the killing of protestors has been slowed down and said there was no immediate plan for executions.

The U.N. Security Council is set to meet to address the situation. European and Israeli officials have suggested that U.S. military intervention could occur within the next 24 hours, though the scope and timing remain unclear.
