X user exposes Israeli army’s claim about Sinwar’s wife carrying $32,000 Birkin bag

The Israeli army’s spokesperson for Arab media claimed that the wife of former Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar was carrying a Hermes Birkin bag worth $32,000 while Palestinians in Gaza live in poverty.

An alleged video of Sinwar and his family moving into a tunnel circulated on X, and the IDF’s spokesperson, Lt Col Avichay Adraee, posted a picture from the video, asking, “Did Sinwar's wife enter the tunnel with him on October 6, carrying a Birkin bag estimated to cost about $32,000?”

“While the people of Gaza do not have enough money for a tent or basic necessities, we see many examples of Yahya Sinwar and his wife’s special love for money,” he added.

The post received 3,400 likes on the microblogging platform. Several pro-Israeli media outlets published the story without verifying the facts.

The Jerusalem Post claimed, “Prior to his elimination, Sinwar had an estimated net worth of three billion dollars, and was found with thousands of shekels on his person after his death.”

However, several pro-Palestinian accounts debunked the Israeli claims.

An X account, under the name “Lord Bebo,” shared a zoomed-in clip of the video comparing the bag held by Sinwar’s wife to a Birkin bag.

The comparison revealed that the bag carried by the former Hamas leader’s wife was not a Hermes Birkin bag, exposing the claims made by the Israeli army and media.
