A day after Karachi breathed a sigh of relief as the rain subsided, while memories of the disruption they caused remained fresh in residents' minds, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made a remark seen as insensitive by many in the city.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government, which has held power in the province for many years, faced criticism each time rain hit Karachi for its failure to address the drainage system's issues and implement effective precautionary measures.

In a post on X, Bilawal Bhutto reshared a video of Dubai which showed heavy rainwater flooding the streets. 

Taking a clever dig at his critics and expressing confidence in Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab's post-rain clean-up initiatives, he wrote, “Hey Murtaza Wahab Dubai needs you rn [rightnow]!”

While Bilawal's tweet might not have had a significant impact on his opponents, it certainly drew ire from netizens, who deemed his comment disrespectful.

An ‘X’ user, Osama criticised Bilawa Bhutto’s comment and wrote, “No self awareness, no shame, no remorse in governing Pakistan’s only metropole city for 15 continuous years and depriving it’s citizens of basic infrastructure & facilities.”

Another ‘X’ user, Ahad termed Bilawal’s comment ‘disrespectful.’

A critic called out Bilawal Bhutto’s inadequate comparison of Dubai and Karachi.

He wrote, “Pakistan is South Asian monsoon region, whereas UAE is largely an arid desert region. Bilawal is trying to be cheeky but ends looking like a massive wanker because the water you see on roads of Dubai will be gone next day.”

Human rights activist Nida Kirmani also schooled Bilawal Bhutto, saying, "Yes, Murtaza Wahab walking around Dubai with a camera crew while the provincial government continues to sleep through crisis after crisis & approve projects that completely destroy the environment in and around the city is exactly what they need right now."
