A man was surprised to learn that he would need to pay a hefty sum of over RS700,000 for his friend's lavish wedding event after initially accepting the invitation. He reluctantly paid the amount from his savings.
A Reddit user named @Lemonkitty_ shared a story about their friend receiving an unusual wedding invitation that caused him more financial anxiety than joy.
A couple in UK managed to have their guests pay for the entire event, including tips.
Jack received an email that stated, "Thank you for RSVPing to our wedding, and thank you for helping us have the wedding of our dreams."
At the bottom of the email, Jack saw a link that said "click here for payment". He assumed this was a link to the honeymoon fund and went about his day.
One day, he remembered the link and opened it, only to discover that he was being asked to pay £2,000 (Rs746,994).
Jack was perplexed and called the wedding venue to confirm if it was a scam. To his surprise, he was told, "Sophie and Jeff thank you for your contribution to making their dream wedding possible".
Concerned for his friend, he couldn't resist spending his savings on the wedding. Little did he know that his friends were not generous enough to cover his food and drink expenses at their own event.
Cut to the wedding, the drinks were not included. Jack and partner had a couple of drinks and the bill was about £30. At the end of the wedding, when checking out, Jack went to pay his bar bill. The bill was £30, plus nearly £200,” the Reddit post read.
The additional amount, aside from drinks, was for the venue, which is unusual in the UK, according to the Reddit user.
“Jack had no money left from rinsing his savings for the wedding that he had to negotiate a lower tip amount with the venue.”
After calculating the cost of the entire lavish wedding event, Jack discovered that the couple had shifted the financial burden of this luxury affair onto their guests, who paid for the venue, food, and drinks.
The couple had their guests pay for their wedding without informing them in the invitations. They only disclosed this information after the guests had RSVP'd.
