Karachi – A case involving assault and immoral conduct against a bride has taken a critical turn as the accused, Ashok, confessed to the crime before a judicial magistrate.

The court recorded his statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Following the confession, the accused was sent to jail on judicial remand.

According to police, the victim remained in a coma for 20 days before succumbing to her injuries.

Authorities have indicated that Section 302 (murder) is likely to be added to the charges.

The case was initially registered at Baghdadi Police Station.

Dr Summaiya Syed, a police surgeon, said that Shanti, 19, was rushed to the Civil Hospital’s trauma centre two weeks ago. She succumbed to torture injuries on Wednesday at 10:45 am.

She said that when Shanti was shifted to the hospital, she was in critical condition and initial medical report showed evidence of sexual torture.

Confirming her death, police said investigations revealed that Shanti and Ashok tied the knot on June 15.

Just two days after the wedding, Ashok allegedly attempted unnatural sexual acts, which led to a rapid deterioration in her health.
