The body of a three-year-old child, who was swept away along with his mother Dr Mishal in a flash flood near Babusar Pass, was recovered in the Dasar area. Dr Mishal’s husband, Dr Saad survived the tragedy, as the Lodhran-based family was caught in flash floods triggered by a cloudburst on Sunday in the Diamer district, along the route connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rescue officials reported that locals found the body on Wednesday at 7:00 pm and informed them immediately. The Gilgit-Baltistan scouts then transported the body to the hospital.

So far, the remains of at least six out of the 15 missing individuals have been recovered, while search efforts continue for the others.

The Diamir district experienced a cloudburst on Sunday that led to flash floods and landslides, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 tourists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, including Dr Mishal, her brother-in-law, and her son.

The remains of Dr Mishal and her brother-in-law had been transported to Lodhran a day before. Her father was injured in the incident, and a minor child also died.

According to family sources, Dr Mishal was on a trip to Gilgit-Baltistan with 19 members of her family in a coaster, which swept away in the flood, resulting in at least 16 family members, including three who were found deceased, were rescued, while three more remain missing.

Reports indicate that thousands of people, including foreign tourists, are stranded at various locations in Gilgit-Baltistan due to blocked roads, including the Karakoram Highway (KKH), caused by landslides. Additionally, mobile and internet services across the region have been disrupted after fibre optic cables were damaged in several areas.
