Interfaith couple gets married in Italy with nikkah and pheras

A Muslim groom and Hindu bride celebrated their love in a whimsical Italian wedding with Nikkah and Pheras ceremonies, honouring their respective religions.

The bride, Pragya Pandey, and the groom, Adil Hasan, met in New York. They arranged a unique proposal in a neighborhood bookstore. Pragya read a short poem to Adil and proposed to him for marriage. Their love story was featured in the Vogue.

After exploring breathtaking locations throughout Europe, the couple settled on Florence for their wedding venue. The city held a special significance for them, as they had both lived and studied there for a brief period.

Their union took place in Villa Pitiana, a 13th-century monastery, located in Tuscan countryside, providing a regal backdrop for their fairytale wedding.

Coming from distinct religious backgrounds, Pragya and Adil shared a deep respect for their family heritage. This mutual understanding paved the way for a wedding that honoured the traditions of both sides.

“We shared a vision for our wedding where our families felt equally included and both sets of traditions were respected, all the while celebrating the love we have for each other, and them," the duo told Vogue.

They continued,  “When two different cultures or religions converge, there is a fear of the unknown. However, it was during the wedding weekend and especially during the ceremonies, that these barriers were broken. It was a realisation that although different, our traditions are remarkably similar.”

Their pre-nuptial festivities began with a vibrant mehndi ceremony, a lively manjha welcome party, and a soulful qawwali night, setting the mood for joyous celebration as both families embraced their shared traditions.
