A bizarre incident has come to light in Karachi, where a man staged his own suicide to scare his second wife, sources said on Wednesday.

Tahir Mahmood, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony, made a video call to his wife on Monday night, claiming he was committing suicide at Sea View beach, and then disappeared during the phone call.

However, he was found alive on Tuesday and was taken into custody by the police.

According to Tahir, he was facing domestic issues and wanted to scare his family members and second wife.

The suspect claimed he had a bitter conversation with his wife over food, after which he left his home in anger on April 22.

Police said the suspect then went to Seaview Beach to fake his death.

However, Tahir's story took a strange turn when he claimed that four unknown men appeared at Karachi's seaside, who called him by his name and made him faint with "some chemical".

Tahir said the next day he woke up in the Nazimabad area with injuries on his legs and walked back to his home in Shah Faisal Colony.

The police have recorded Tahir's statement, but are skeptical of his claims.

"Tahir first faked suicide and now he has given the fake statement," said Ibrahim, the duty officer at Shah Faisal Colony police station.

"He will be handed over to Darakhshan Police Station and they will investigate him further," the cop added.

It is worth noting that Tahir, who works as an online cab driver in the metropolis, hails from Rahim Yar Khan and has two wives, one from his family and one from Karachi.
