A woman who worked at a mental health company found herself in trouble after her employer fired her for liking a LinkedIn post about a “toxic workplace.”
The woman shared her experience on Reddit, detailing the toxicity she faced at her previous job, where she was terminated for a weird reason, reflecting the company's workplace culture.
The former employee recalled that the CEO had annoying workplace rules and expected everyone to comply without question.
She described her former CEO as “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” and said she often had to go to the bathroom to cry and release her frustration due to the toxic work environment.
“So I had the displeasure of joining a mental health startup company that was extremely toxic. Toxic manager, weird rules and dynamics. The manager honestly made my life a living hell at work. She was an extremely hostile person and always used to play dumb when the CEO was talking. The CEO was so toxic too; literally a wolf in sheep skin,” Reddit user ‘Ashiean’ stated in her post.
The situation escalated when she received a phone call informing her that she had been fired for “spreading wrong things about the company.”
“I was let go because I liked a post on LinkedIn that talked about toxic workplaces. This is something that I am so passionate about (employee mental health, etc). So liking a post didn’t seem to do any harm. Not only that, the post itself sounded very very relatable,” she explained.
The woman questioned why employees are expected to perform their duties with their “mouths shut, regardless of how horrible things are.”
She concluded her post by expressing fear that she might have to tolerate similar situations at her next job, as she is now scared to speak up.
Reddit users found it ironic that, despite running a mental health company, the employer was negatively impacting the mental well-being of its workers.
