In a report released by a pest control company, New York City has been named the most rat-infested city in the United States (US).

The city's residents frequently spot rats in parks, playgrounds, fields, and subway stations, making it no surprise that the city tops the list.

The report ranked the top 5 most rat-infested cities as:

1. New York City

2. San Francisco

3. Los Angeles

4. Philadelphia

5. Washington DC

Despite efforts to tackle the issue, New York saw a 107 percent increase in searches for "rat extermination" services.

However, the New York Department of Sanitation claimed that rat sightings have decreased in 12 of the last 13 months, thanks to measures such as using dry ice to exterminate rodents and implementing a rodent control program.

In an attempt to address the problem, New York Mayor Eric Adam appointed Kathleen Corradi as rat control coordinator last year, with an annual salary of $155,000.

The city's residents continue to require pest control services, highlighting the ongoing struggle with rat infestations.

The prevalence of rats in New York City poses health concerns, as they carry pathogens that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and fever in humans.

Experts said the city needs proper waste management and building integrity to prevent rat infestations.
