Karachiites are likely to face a massive electricity price hike of Rs10.69 per unit as K-Electric has requested a tariff increase from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).
If approved, the new basic electricity tariff would be set at Rs44.69 per unit, a massive hike from the current average tariff of Rs34 per unit.
The request is part of K-Electric's petition for a multi-year tariff from 2023 to 2030.
In the petition, the private company has requested to set the EPP component of electricity price at Rs18.88 per unit and CPP component at Rs12.54 per unit.
K-Electric has also sought addition of transmission and distribution charges of Rs 3.48 per unit each, operation and maintenance (Rs0.42 per unit), retail margin (Rs0.59 per unit), recovery loss allowance (Rs2.88 per unit) and working capital (Rs2.7 per unit).
Nepra has invited feedback from stakeholders within 7 days on K-Electric's petition.
