The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on Tuesday that it has issued Rs27 billion in fresh currency notes to 17,000 commercial bank branches for public distribution ahead of Eid ul Fitr, continuing its customary practice for the festive period.
In response to reports suggesting the SBP would not release fresh banknotes this year, the central bank clarified that it is upholding its long-standing tradition of providing new notes to commercial banks during Eid celebrations.
The SBP confirmed that efforts have been made to ensure the availability of fresh notes through the extensive nationwide network of bank branches. Additionally, commercial bank ATMs will be stocked with high-quality banknotes to ensure smooth access to currency during the holiday season.
The SBP has also deployed Cash Monitoring teams to inspect branches and ensure the proper distribution of the new notes.
Eid ul Fitr is expected to begin on March 31, 2025, according to predictions by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission.
