Meta-owned social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger were hit with a global outage on Tuesday night, as users across the globe were not able to access the sites.
According to the outage-tracking website, Downdetector.com, users were unable to log in to their accounts on Facebook and Instagram, meaning they couldn't post or view anything.
Users trying to access Facebook and Instagram in affected areas were greeted with the message: “Something went wrong. There's an issue and the page could not be loaded."
Later, services of Mark Zuckerberg's sites were restored globally after being suspended for two hours.
However, Meta suffered a huge loss during the period of the outage, as calculated by the quarterly profit of the tech giant in the previous year 2023.
Meta earned $38.7 billion in ad revenue in the final quarter of the year 2023.
As per the amount declared by Meta in its annual report, it received $420 million per day for three months.
The single-day figures showed that Zuckerberg was hit by a loss of approximately $35 million in the two hours of the global disruption.
