The government has announced revised prices for petroleum products, keeping the price of petrol unchanged while increasing the prices of diesel and kerosene oil.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the price of high-speed diesel has been raised by Rs6 per litre, bringing it to Rs284.44. Petrol, however, remains unchanged at Rs265.45 per litre. The revised prices took effect at midnight.
Meanwhile, following the increase in diesel prices, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) issued a separate notification confirming a hike in the price of kerosene oil. The price has risen by Rs9.29 per litre and is now set at Rs194.34, up from the previous Rs185.05 per litre.
Earlier, on November 14, it was reported that due to slight fluctuations in the international market, prices of all petroleum products—except petrol—were expected to rise by up to Rs9.50 per litre for the next 15 days (until November 30).
Petrol is widely used in private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles, and any change in its price directly affects the budgets of middle- and lower-middle-income households.
Diesel, on the other hand, is critical to the transport and agriculture sectors. A rise in diesel prices increases overall inflation, as it affects the cost of trucks, buses, tractors, tube wells, threshers, and other heavy transport and farm machinery—ultimately driving up the prices of vegetables and essential food items.
